Still Here.........

I think we are just avoiding the inevitable.

Braunston is coming up.

There, I've typed it, "that" name.
Braunston maybe a canal center to some but to us it is a nightmarish busy spot.

Why are you going there then?  I here you ask.
Spares from Calcutt boats is the answer, an unavoidable necessity as they are the only firm left with the spares for our engine.

We didn't hold our breath for a reply from the Rugby golf club, which, as it turns out was a good decision.
The other boat involved has heard nothing either.

On the day (yesterday) when the TV weather guessers  announced that this was one of the driest summers on record, it was tipping it down with a vengeance - as it has been doing to us all summer -.

Sixty three boats have passed us today........we have got to get back on the move tomorrow before we start counting blades of grass.

Until next time.....................

Staying Put......Again.

It's raining water and golf balls.

We were going to move on today but the look of the weather put us off and as we both have the "sniffles" - although mine is much worse and is of course flu - we gave it a miss.

The heavyish rain in the above picture soon turned into..........

these monsoon conditions.

Today as we have been doing jobs - and playing golf on the Wii -  we have been counting the boats that have gone by.
An unbelievable fifty four boats for today, this was so quiet compared to yesterday I can only imagine it must have been getting close to the hundred.

Golf balls rained down on the moored boats along here this afternoon, we took a hit as did the boat in front, two more balls landed in the water. They all came over at the same time and were accompanied by much laughing and running teenagers.
This is not all that good from a club such as this one at Rugby, all we could do is email them as they were not answering their phone, I wonder if they will respond?

I wont be holding my breath!

Until next time.......................

Staying Put.

Where do they keep coming from????

It was a very nice morning this morning, so our thoughts turned to getting through Hillmorton locks and heading slowly out into the country.

These thoughts were quickly changed to plan "B" when the hordes started to flood by once again. On and on they came, boat after boat after boat, roll on the time when this lot get back in their marinas and we can have the waterways back to ourselves again.

There was a serious concern that we might not get our collected Blackberry and Apple crumble this year as the Blackberries on the Coventry had failed dismally.
Coming further south and we find we have plenty to collect and the advantage of getting to the ones not available to the towpath walkers.

This bridge at Ansty is still the same this year, seemingly in the last throes of collapse, but....... it still stands.

Until next time.......................
