Atherstone To Nuneaton....Ish.



Oh dear BW, why do you do it?






Today started normally at the top lock at Atherstone, then chaos ensued as BW in their infinite wisdom took a tug with dumb barge down the flight accompanied by another dumb barge being bow hauled by five BW staff.

Why now? was the plaintive cry from the assembled and assembling boats.
Why now indeed!!
What train of thought led to the decision to block this flight as hordes of boats were trying to find their way home from the festival on the Ashby canal?

You can only guess.

We did a little bit of shopping and set sail for pastures new.

Having to pick up water at Hartshill as the water points and sanitary station are out of order at Atherstone we were wondering how a place can change so much in six months.

The lock keeper is no longer keeping the lock as he/she has retired and has not been replaced. The water points and sanitary station are covered in red and white eurotape and seem abandoned, added to this the coal yard that seemed to have been there for ever has now gone.

Another sign of the times?

Today? yesterday?...... yesteryear?
