Whats this? blue Sky's and a bit of sunshine, let go fo'ward, let go aft, step lively now or you'll be feeling the cat afore noon, mark my words.
After we gently slipped our moorings and approached the first lock of the day, we found the world and his wife has had the same idea. This is as close to the Piccadilly Circus of the canal world as you can get.
The yard for the Diesel was up two locks and jam packed with hire boats, there was only one gap and that had to be reversed into.
My first attempt was a bit disconcerting as Ubique was too long to make the turn and snuggled up to a moored boat and refused to move.
The second attempt was good as lots of power forced the stern past the bow of the offending moored boat whilst Ubique's bow was wedged on the bank.
Comments from a passing crew as to,
"You've done that before mate"
tend to brighten your day.
What a forlorn little thing this is. I know it is only a boat, but this boat is sad.
It wouldn't take much to get her up and running again
A wind swept turn onto the Oxford Canal soon found us in another world, wide open sweeping spaces replacing trees and houses.
That band of orange at the bottom of the picture is the first bag of coal of the season.
This was brought on by us waking up this morning and being able to see our breath in the bedroom. Oooeerrr missus.
A quick snap out of the side door as I type this. A field of Ponies with the odd inquisitive one coming for a look.
We should be passing through one of the most photographed locks on the system tomorrow, I will give it my best shot.
So until then..............................................
