Skipton to Silsden. No Locks.

We arrived at Skipton in the late afternoon and decided to stay for the whole of the next day. That day turned out to be market day and the town was packed. The canal runs right through the centre of the town making it an ideal place for trip boats. There were loads of them, they came in all shapes and sizes from the huge floating restaurants right down to tiny boats hired by the hour.

The whole place had a real holiday atmosphere about it and is well worth a visit if you get near here

Just leaving quietly through the back door, back to the countryside which as usual is within not much more than five minutes of the centre.

This part of the Leeds & Liverpool although lacking in locks is liberally dotted with swing bridges. Here's D stopping the traffic again at an automated one (she loves doing that). For the most part though they are just farmers bridges giving access to the fields and surrounding countryside.

Kildwick, another village that has built right up to the canal. These houses are not very old but have been built in keeping with the older constructions around them. They overlook the most fantastic views of rolling hills and fields far into the distance, and not forgetting the canal.

Finally found some Greylag geese young and what posers they were, I pointed the camera at them and they were off, me me take a picture of me, no no photograph me first.

They can't fly yet but it shouldn't be too long by the look of them.

Here's Ubique sporting her freshly fitted and polished rear chimney. It has been aboard since we bought her but it has been standing next to the wood/coal stove as decoration. The recent sunshine brought out the Brasso tin and cloths resulting in a nice shiny chimney.

We are tied alongside the wall at at the moment at a place named Keighley, the rain is coming down very well and has been doing so for the last hour and a half, this accompanied by some very strong and cold winds makes us ask, what happened to all that sunshine two days ago?

The great British weather at its best, one minute dying of sunstroke the next wearing a fleece and contemplating lighting the fire.

D says don't even think about it.

Oh well, until tomorrow then....................Brrr
