Friday 13 March 2009

Wednesday/Thursday/Friday 11/12/13th March 09.

We have been out of a reception area for a while so I will try to catch up now.

Wednesday saw us complete the longest run to Tesco ever, we decided on Sunday night to leave in the morning and we made it by Wednesday lunchtime (With the odd adventure). This was just killing time until they finish the work on Buckby locks and set us free.

This was a very unusual house having been extended a few times towards the canal, the bridge is more or less a blind right angle to the left. Look at the colour of that sky though.
Thursday and we are on our way back to Whilton, up Stoke Bruerne locks again. At the top two locks we were filmed doing our bit and asked loads of questions by some people from Australia. We got through them without a hitch..... which was nice.
Then it was tube time again, this time (with no word of a lie) and quite some time after we had entered, we were standing next to each other and realised that we could not see each other at all.
Bearing in mind that the stern of a Trad Narrowboat is not a ballroom this was weird to say the least. The spotlight was showing the tunnel over the bow but there was no light at all at the stern.
As I say weird!

Another strange sign (along with Goats Eggs £1.50 a dozen) its a good one.

Friday and we have left ourselves a long day to get to Whilton, which we must do as our new cushions have to be collected Sat morning along with a Tesco order. Being very foggy in the early hours this could have been touch and go. All was fine though a bit later so off we went.

As we cruised we passed this lovely house. As they say when selling, Location, Location Location.

The other side of the bridge.

I see no ships!
Someone is becoming a bit of a "Twitcher", Did you know that a Duck can lay 6 to 10 eggs at a time? says D,........ ZZZZZZZZZ says I.
On the other hand have you seen the size of a Ducks egg and the size of a Duck? Somethings gotta hurt somewhere.
Nice rural scene approaching Whilton

Upon arriving there were boats as far as the eye could see, you would think they were there to see the grand opening of Parliament, or the changing of the guard, not a flight of repaired locks.
The man at the front of the queue was proud that he had been there all day and had spent his time washing the boat down.
The locks opened at 3pm, a load of boats came through the other way!!! all as desperate to go South as everyone this side was to go North.
The grass is always greener.
Well I have caught up and it's now beer o'clock,
Until tomorrow.........
