Salterforth to East Marton. 3 Locks.

Chugging along this part of the canal we were eagerly awaiting the real views of the Pennines to begin. There was no disappointment as each corner revealed more and more glorious scenery.

On the way we had to negotiate three locks all fitted with another different set of ground paddles. The water level in these parts is very low and water conservation is a high priority so two boats in each lock is recommended, therefore we had to wait at the first of the three for a hire boat crew who needed full instruction from the hirer's as how to pass through a lock.
There are many different shades of green and this crew were the greenest of the green.

After the three locks they were still none the wiser, good luck to them and all who meet them coming the other way.

An interesting build this, you think that had they built the terrace straight the end house would be three storeys high.

Another interesting build, I feel sure that this has to be about saving weight and getting more strength from the two arches

We are now into dry stone wall territory and even the canal edge is built of stone.

All the following pictures are where we spent our anniversary, we are overlooking fields of sheep and cows stretching as far as your eyes can see all tied together with the dry stone walling. You do have to see this to believe it.

The weather is so hot we have decided to stay on here for a couple of days as it is too good to miss.

All on our own miles from anywhere.

Until our next move.........................
