Continued.

Escaping the clutches of the Erewash rock and mud pit we were soon back out into some proper water on the Trent.
This was bank holiday Monday and (Unbelievably) it was also sunny, making this a very busy river indeed as all the weekenders were out speeding down to the pub.

Talking to the keeper at Sawley lock, the rush was nearly over for now but they would all be coming back at the same time later in the day.
I call this "sheep syndrome"

Never under estimate an angry river.

Once more into the breach dear friends, once more,

Or...... just back onto the Trent and Misery as we now call this end of the canal.
I am not sure if it is the slowest filling and emptying locks in the country or the plethora of totally inexperienced hire boat crews around here but the local canal users from the marinas are quite the most miserable bunch of sour faced people you could ever wish to meet.

The normal smile and acknowledgement is a very rare thing and as for the usual getting stuck in at the locks, well....you can forget that.
We are here to get our own boat through not everyone else's, is their way of thinking

Thankfully this is the only place we have come across so far where some boaters (not all)are this ignorant.

Back through Shardlow and this is my take at the iconic picture in the Nicholsons.

I've nearly caught up now,

Until next time................
